Western Suburbs Real Estate

Walkable downtowns, beautiful homes, and easy Metra access make Chicago’s Western Suburbs the best of both worlds.

Chicago’s Western Suburbs include a collection of towns connected by commuter rail, established downtowns, residential streets, and a wide range of housing. Here, you’ll find historic homes near village centers, mid-century properties on larger lots, established subdivisions, and newer construction designed for the way people live today. Each town offers a different balance of space, train access, schools, parks, taxes, and everyday convenience, so the right choice often becomes clearer only after seeing several in person. With our Western Suburbs office at 1 Grant Square in Hinsdale, The Everett Group works throughout the area. We know these communities beyond the map: how the housing changes from town to town, which tradeoffs matter most, and why two seemingly similar homes may live very differently.

Life in the Western Suburbs

The Western Suburbs draw a lot of interest from those looking for strong schools and a slower pace without giving up easy access to the city. Most towns out here have their own walkable downtown with local shops and restaurants, plenty of parks and forest preserves, and a sense of community that can be harder to find in denser parts of Chicago. Many of these suburbs are also known for excellent public school districts, which is often the single biggest factor driving families to make the move.

Getting Around

Commuting is one of the first questions we get from clients considering a move out here, and the good news is that the Western Suburbs are well connected. The Metra BNSF Line runs through many of these towns and offers a direct ride into Chicago's Loop, which makes it possible to enjoy suburban life without losing the city as an option for work or weekends. Highway access is strong too, with I-88, I-294, and I-355 all running through the area, making it easy to get around the suburbs themselves or head into the city by car.

Cook County vs. DuPage County

One detail that surprises a lot of buyers moving from the city is that the Western Suburbs span two different counties, Cook and DuPage, and property tax rates and assessment processes can differ between them. If you're comparing towns, it's worth understanding which county a home sits in before you fall in love with it. This is exactly the kind of detail our team walks buyers through as part of the search process.
